KOA has launched a competition for design students with a grand prize of $10,000 (AED36,700).
The KOA University Design Challenge will see students of Canadian University Dubai (CUD) compete to design an aspect of the UAE-headquartered developer’s Canvas project.
Participants have the choice of designing the extension of Canvas’s co-working space into the outdoor common area, bilingual signage for the project, or a play structure for the development’s day-care centre.
According to the competition guidelines, the winning entry must enhance both the project’s aesthetic and the lifestyle experience of its residents.
Mohammed Bin Zaal, chief executive officer and founder of KOA, said: “The judges and I cannot wait to see the final work of the students of Canadian University Dubai, and have no doubt that we will be presented with some innovative solutions to our competition’s criteria.
“KOA is an aspirational project to provide people their dream homes, working spaces and communities, and we hope that the aspirations of Dubai’s young and creative talent is demonstrated in the finished products of their submissions.”
The competition will be judged by Tarik Zaharna, founder and director of Canvas’s lead architect firm, T.ZED Architects; Kamelia Zaal, landscape architect; and KOA’s Mohammed Zaal.
Located in Dubai’s Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum City (MBR City), Canvas comprises residential units, co-working spaces, retail outlets, and outdoor common areas.
The KEO University Design Challenge will take place during CUD’s spring semester, and the winner will be announced by 12 April, 2017.
