KONE wins order to equip Lusail Light Rail Transit System in Doha Qatar

Elevator company KONE has won an order for 139 elevators, escalators and autowalks to be installed at the Lusail Light Rail Transit system in Qatar.

The project, overseen by architect firm Atkins, is currently under construction in the new city of Lusail, north of Doha and is expected to serve around 40,000 daily visitors.

The Lusail Light Rail Transit network will comprise 10km of underground track, four main tram lines, ground level and elevated tracks and passenger stations.

To ensure accessibility and transfer for the passengers through the stations, the KONE equipment will include 49 elevators, 82 escalators and eight horizontal autowalks.

“We are extremely honored to have won this project,” said Mark Bayyari, KONE managing director for Qatar. “With our solid understanding of the passenger requirements in the public transport sector and our eco-efficient equipment, we look forward to ensuring a smooth and seamless transit experience for the commuters.”
