Le Corbusier Iraq gym to be preserved

A forgotten gymnasium in Baghdad, designed by legendary architect Le Corbusier in 1957, is to be preserved, it was reported by AFP.

Completed in 1982 under Saddam Hussein, years after the architect’s death in 1965, the building has fell into disrepair following Iraq’s occupation by US soldiers.

The gymnasium was ‘rediscovered’ in 2005, when an architectural researcher came across the building and contacted the Le Corbusier Foundation in France.
