Le Corbusier table burnt by bungling burglars


A table designed by famed architect Le Corbusier has gone up in smoke after it was stolen from a storeroom in the Indian city of Chandigarh.

A court heard the table was burnt by a “heritage furniture” broker who was unaware of its significance and was worried its possession might attract police attention, a court heard.

Dealer Faquir Chand along with two women, named as Usha and Sunita, are charged with the thefts after 15 chairs and the table designed by the French architect were stolen from the college store.


Le Corbusier was the architect of much of the Indian city which is regarded as one of the best large scale examples of his urban design.
