New Abu Dhabi school parades ‘living wall’

Living Wall

A new school by the government-backed Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) contains an inventive internal courtyard with a ‘living wall’ and a meshed garden that can be watered by pupils.

Sammon Group, a specialised education contractor and consultant, provided services for the school project, known unofficially as Abu Dhabi West School.

Miceál Sammon, CEO of Sammon Group, said: “Children can go out into the area which provides different textures to touch. They have to be stimulated and people in the West don’t always realise that.”

He continued: “It’s challenging to provide the outdoor classroom environment in a hot climate. It’s even harder for those schools that don’t have government funding.”
