Abu Dhabi’s Louvre Museum will make the UAE capital a “hot international tourist destination” according to French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius.
The attraction, designed by French architect Jean Nouvel, is due to open on Saadiyat Island in December 2015.
Fabius said: The Abu Dhabi Louvre will bear world class hallmarks and standards that will make it a hot international tourist destination”.
His comments came at the Birth of a Museum Exhibition event at the Louvre in Paris, which features items from the permanent artistic collection to be shown at Louvre Abu Dhabi.
Fabius added that the Louvre Abu Dhabi will play a “pivotal role” in bringing East and West closer together through the arts, as well as creating better understanding.
More than 160 masterpieces from the Louvre Abu Dhabi’s collection have gone on show for the first time outside of the UAE capital. They will be showcased in the Musee du Louvre, Paris at the Napoleon Hall until July 28.
