A map that charts members of the interior design, architecture and consultants (to architects) industry on Twitter has passed over 8,000 views and 120 professionals added to it in the three days since it went live.

The map, which was created on August 22, 2011, allows anyone who is in the relevant field to add themselves to the growing list of design and architecture professionals who use social media on a regular basis.

Mark Schumann, director – program cost consultancy, Middle East, Davis Langdon, said the idea for the map came about in two ways.

“Firstly I have often been intrigued that we tweet with our colleagues and peers on Twitter, yet don’t really have a feel for where our followers are. I had been looking for a way to put local construction twitter users, architects, consultants and designers on a map of the Middle East,” said Schumann.

He said after doing some research, he found Su Butcher (Story continues below

“It was from this we got talking and decided to combine our thinking and use Google maps to openly collaborate with our industry to see if we could provide something useful that could be used within the ‘twittersphere’,” he added.

He said the map is helping to build a good global image of where like-minded individuals in the industry, who are present on Twitter, are based.

“It has also shown that we have some way to go here in the Middle East,” he added.

In the Middle East, some who have already pinned themselves to the map include: Mark Schumann (@MarkSchuey), Studio Em (@Studio_Em), and Matt Fox (@Matt_J_Fox) in the UAE, Sahar Ghazale (@saharghazale) in Kuwait, and Asaad Ali (@Arch_Asaad) in Saudi Arabia.
