The main frame of a massive Dubai theme park with sections devoted to Marvel Comics and TV’s Cartoon Network has now been completed.
Ilyas & Mustafa Galadari (IMG) Group said IMG Worlds of Adventure is set to mark the “opening of a new chapter in the UAE’s leisure industry”.
The scheme was first put forward in 2008 but was stalled because of the world economic recession.
However it is now back on track and the company said work on the roof and wall cladding is now progressing while the off-site manufacturing of rides is also well underway and shipments have started to arrive on-site.
“This is the entertainment destination Dubai has been waiting for,” said a spokesperson. “It is the first leisure destination in the world to bring together global brands, Cartoon Network and Marvel in one location, in addition to Lost Valley – Dinosaur Adventure, an original concept.
“We have worked with the best ride designers in the business and many of the rides will be world-firsts in terms of the technology involved and ride experience, with a multitude of state-of-the-art attractions bringing the epic adventure alive for visitors,”
IMG Worlds of Adventure will include four zones themed around various attractions. In June 2012, it was announced Marvel Entertainment, the creator of popular comic book heroes X-Men and The Avengers, was to lend its name to one of the zones, which will feature retail outlets, dining facilities and interactive entertainment.
An additional zone will be themed around the Cartoon Network, which owns intellectual property to children’s series Ben10, and The Lost Valley, which will include animatronic dinosaurs and rollercoaster rides.
