Berlin-based architect J.Mayer H. is designing a series of highway rest areas in the Caucasus Republic of Georgia.
Two of these rest areas have already been completed while a third is currently under construction and is scheduled for completion this year.
Head of Roads Department of Georgia commissioned the project, where the 20 service stations will run across a new highway running from Azerbaijan to Turkey, through Georgia.
The colossal concrete structures shade petrol stations, stretching around glass walls that enclose supermarkets, farmer’s markets and exhibitions for arts and crafts.
Rest stops are located on selected scenic viewpoints, serving as activators for their area as well as their neighbouring cities.
