Metallic facade planned for Berlin building

libeskind apartment block

Architect Daniel Libeskind has revealed plans to build an angular apartment block in Berlin, Germany featuring a metallic facade.

The building is set for completion by 2015,  accommodating shops at ground level and 73 residences on its upper floors.

Clad using a specially developed stoneware tile with a reflective metallic coating, the facade will also possess self- cleaning properties as well as air- purification.

In order to maximise natural lighting in the building, large asymmetric windows will be added within the building. Parking space will be located underground.

Speaking of the building, Libeskind commented: “”Even as my studio is often called upon to design skyscrapers these days, I continue to love to build homes, the basic unit of human life.”
