Minimalist stone mosque proposed for Turkey

This simple yet daring mosque design by Emre Arolat Architects is proposed for  a suburban site outside Istanbul, Turkey.

It is located in a prairie landscape that is separated from the surrounding houses by a busy highway.

Stone stairs follow the natural slope of the landscape and the thin reinforced concrete slab spans over six metres to form the canopy.

Its interior is simple and cave-like space, with slits and fractures along the Qiblah wall allowing daylight to filter into the prayer hall.
