MMAC wins Best Interior Design Concept of the Year

In one of two new categories this year, MMAC Design landed the award for its comprehensive work on a new JBR Hotel, which is expected to open on Dubai’s The Walk in the first quarter of 2018.

The 258-key, five-star boutique hotel will feature multiple food and beverage outlets as well as business and leisure facilities including a spa, beach club, meeting and special event space and business centre.

MMAC Design said that one of the client’s directives was to incorporate a “sense of place” within the hotel. Drawing inspiration from the long-standing tradition of the dhow shipyards and Dubai’s association with pearl diving and seafaring, the interior was envisioned to reflect the hull of a dhow. The bar of the lobby has been designed like a hearth to draw visitors in while the guestrooms and suites have been designed to reflect a timeless style and make use of a muted neutral palette.

The judges were impressed by “a consistency of material, detail and narrative throughout this large renovation project and a clever re-use of spaces retaining a high-level of sophistication throughout”.

Christian Merieau, managing director/partner of MMac Design, said: “It’s been a great night for us. We’ve been nominated so many times and it’s the first year that we’ve won. This is an award for the entire team.

“Our clients know they can trust us and we can try daring things with them.”
