A modern art installation at an Italian gallery was swept away by cleaners after they mistook it for rubbish.
The design called “Where shall we go dancing tonight?” featured cigarette butts, empty bottles and confetti, and was designed to depict 1980s hedonism.
But after an event at the Museion gallery in Bolzano, cleaning staff assumed the installation was left-over mess.
Museum curator Letizia Ragaglia said: “On Friday night there was an event at the museum. We told the staff just to clean up the foyer and to leave everything else alone.
“Evidently they thought that this area was part of the foyer. Of course we tell staff not to clean away art.”
