Muscat’s Municipal Council will explore the possibility of introducing a new tram system in the Omani capital city.
Members of the local authority, who will meet with a consulting company next month to discuss ways of improving public transport in Muscat, have urged the Ministry of Transport and Communications to consider introducing a tram system in the capital, according to a report in Times of Oman.
“With the capital growing by leaps and bounds, Muscat needs a good public transport system. Across the world it has been proven that trams provide high capacity service,” Malik Al Yahmadi, a member of Muscat Municipal Council, told the newspaper.
The council also agreed to recommend to the Oman National Transport Company a proposal to introduce double-decker buses in the near future.
