Muuto has celebrated its fifth anniversary with an exhibition at Designmuseum Danmark, Denmark’s official museum of design.
The company has, together with designers from Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland, created an international success story based on a collection of furniture, lighting and home accessories.
The exhibition highlights new contributions and developments in Scandinavian design through a retrospective look at five years of Muuto designs as well as the designers and the processes behind them.
Further adding to the celebration is the addition of 10 Muuto designs to the permanent collection of the museum.
The recently re‐named Designmuseum Danmark (previouslyThe Danish Museum for Art and Design) is currently increasing its focus on communicating young, innovative design.
“Muuto is a good bid for a successor to continue and develop the strong Scandinavian design Tradition,” said Christian Holmsted Olesen, chief curator for modern design at the museum.
“The company’s design has a modern character, based on the use of the objects and at the same time a playful and refreshing expression.”
Kristian Byrge, creative director, Muuto said that the fact that Designmuseum Danmark chose to include such a big part of its collection in its permanent collection is a great and encouraging boost.
“The last five years have been an exciting time for Scandinavian design and an exceptional journey for Muuto,” he said.
“We hope that we, the designers and the rest of the industry can build on the current momentum in the years to come.”
