Snohetta, the Norwegian architecture firm, has released proposals for a light railway station for Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
Designers proposed a fuselage-like metro station for a transport hub in the downtown area.
The outer skin of the building-a long tube enclosing a station on the city’s C-Line would be surfaced with ceramic tiles “developed in cooperation with local artists.”
A number of railway projects are taking place in Saudi Arabia including a large urban system in Riyadh which the architecture company has also submitted designs for.
Snohetta has also been involved with designing a cultural centre for the kingdom.
