Perkins+Will to design 5-star hotel in Riyadh

Architects Perkins+Will has been selected to design a new five-star hotel which will reflect the natural landscape of Saudi Arabia.

It will be built in the Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh on behalf of the Saudi Hotel and Resorts Company.
The low-rise four-story structure, which is due for completion in 2016, is inspired by the country’s wadis and oases.

“We are thrilled to have been selected for this high profile project which highlights our growing capability in the region for hospitality projects.” said Steve Charlton, managing director for the Dubai office of  Perkins+Will.

“The project is clad in a unique façade that reflects the local landscape of the region.”

The building design is set to reflect the local landscape as well as offer shaded spaces for guests and as much use as possible will be made of natural light.

“The façade provides an opportunity for us to take advantage of the layered exterior by creating internal spaces that are lit with filtered natural sunlight creating grand, open, yet welcoming spaces,” said Ben Piper, director of architectural design.
