The city of Wuzhong in China is to be the setting of a massive new mosque which will accommodate 1,000 worshippers.
It will be dedicated to the founder of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, in remembrance of his humanitarian work across the globe.
The building will have a prayer hall, ablution areas and separate facilities for men and women as well as accommodation for the resident Imam.
Wuzhong, in the Ningzia region, is home to a large Muslim population and the project is aimed at catering to their religious and spiritual needs as well as being a meeting place for residents. Scientific and other educational discussions will also be held on the site.
The project has the full backing of the UAE government.
