Omran starts Madinat Al Irfan design work in Oman

Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran) announced it has started the design and development of Madinat Al Irfan Urban Centre.

Master planning works for the urban development are underway as well.

Madinat Al Irfan, touted to become Oman’s largest mixed-use development, will be developed over three phases.

Omran was appointed the project’s developer in 2014 by the Government of Oman, which is currently in the process of transferring land to the tourism authority.

The project’s master-plan, due for release in mid-2016, includes the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre Precinct.

A 22,000sqm column-free exhibition centre is currently under construction at the site, and is due for completion in the fourth quarter of this year.

The centre has been divided into five large halls, and will also comprise an auditorium and orchestra pit.

The precinct will feature a five-star JW Marriott hotel facility, and a four-star Crowne Plaza.

Both hotels are currently under development, and are available for private equity shareholding, Omran said.

The master-plan includes seven plots are available for investment.

The plots will be fully services with key utilities, such as water, electricity, and sewage treatment, and will be offered for hospitality, commercial, residential, and leisure developments.

Madinat Al Irfan is likely to be designated as a special development zone by Omran, in a bid to support local investors and ease paperwork and permit actions.

The authority recently hosted an executive briefing to gauge industry responses about the project.

Saif Al Hinai, executive director of the Madinat Al Irfan project, said: “Meeting with stakeholders and presenting the vision of Madinat Al Irfan is a critical part of our overall development philosophy, one which fosters transparency and constructive dialogue between stakeholders, investors, specialists and community leaders.

“Through this collaboration, we gain stakeholder support, and generate greater levels of participation from our partners in the business community in order to achieve our goals.”
