Origami display for summer in Dubai hotel lobby

Dubai’s Jumeirah Creekside Hotel has an ornamental design in its lobby inspired by the Japanese art of origami – making designs out of folded coloured paper.

Traditionally, the hotel uses up to 20,000 flowers per month to create its floral arrangements in the entrance.

But throughout the summer flowers perish quickly due to the heat – so 200 hotel workers took up paper-folding.

The hotel’s Nadine O’Connor said the ancient art provided a more sustainable alternative.   She said: “The use of bright colours represents diversity, hope and a bright promise. It’s an appropriate time to think about peace particularly leading into Ramadan a holy month of reflection and prayer.”
