Perkins + Will picked up the prize for Large Architecture Firm of the Year at the Middle East Architect Awards 2015.
This award recognises the firm with over 100 employees that has made the most significant impact on the GCC region through its work in 2015.
The judges praised Perkins + Will for its diverse range of projects and the way that each design is both distinctive and innovative.
Principalw Steven Charlton and Peter Ridley, and director of architecture David Lessard picked up the award.
“It was completely unexpected. We are quite new in the market in terms of being here on the grounds- to win an award so quickly is amazing. It is a testament to the people that we have,” said Charlton.
He continued: “We have grown massively. We have almost doubled every year in size. We are trying to find the best talent from around the world. We are very localised and we try to adapt to what the market wants in the regions where we work and people want talented people on the grounds so you can go to the US or the UK and get talent but it’s better to have people who are thirty minutes or an hour away.”
Speaking of recent projects, Lessard said: “We have a few projects under construction now, ranging in scale. In Saudi Arabia we have a five star hotel, the Diplomatic Quarter for the Marriott under development, some large projects with NORR that we recently launched that are under construction in Dubai, and we are also working very closely with Ellington Group, a new-to-the-market developer, doing really refined and elegant work and we really appreciate the design ethos as lines with our outlook.”
Highly commended for this category was Woods Bagot for its “continued commitment to excellence”.
