Prospect Design, which has offices in Cannes and Dubai has recreated a ‘melting ceiling’ for the Movida nightclub at the Radisson Royal Hotel, in Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai.
The company, which focuses on hospitality projects, was established in 1996 by Samy Chams in Cannes and is headed up by his brother, Fady in the MENA region, which opened a Dubai office in 2005.
“Prospect Design International has been appointed twice to design Movida London that won the ‘Best new club 2005′ and the’ The best club 2006′ in the London Club and Bar awards. We have an excellent relationship with the owners and they wanted us to design their new club in Dubai,” said Chams.
“We kept some of the design features implemented in the club in London, and created others such as the ‘melting ‘ceiling and the bar façade ( made out of a see through honeycomb acrylic sheet). We also used the same cornice in the ceiling and the same patterned wallpaper in some areas.”
The club has two bar areas, 38 VIP tables and capacity for 500 people. Lighting was installed in the flooring in front of the tables , LED changing colours in the ceilings and LED screens.
The main challenge was the area of the space which is rectangular and long, which meant the design team had to create levelled areas for tables on the right and left hand side of the club.
“We also maximised the ceiling height in the middle area, in locating the services (AC and ducting) on both the right and left sides of the ceiling,” added Chams.
“Like in any project, there was a budget we needed to stick to, but in the end, we were able to implement our design within the budget proposed by the client, in changing a few of the materials and finishes but keeping the overall design as it was initially created.”
Prospect Design is now working on a number of confidential hospitality projects in Dubai. It’s other work includes; Armani Prive, Burj Khalifa; People by Crystal in the Raffles Hotel, The Gramercy Restaurant in DIFC and Donbatello Italian restaurant & lounge, DWTC.
