Qatar investors launch Europe’s tallest building

The Shard in London, Europe’s tallest building at 310m, was today inaugurated in a ceremony attended by several of its Qatari investors and architect Renzo Piano.

Piano was joined by Governor of Qatar Central Bank and chairman of the board of directors of Shard Funding Limited, HE Sheikh Abdullah Bin Saoud Al Thani and fellow board member and QNB Group CEO, Ali Shareef Al-Emadi.

Although the external shell has been finished, the 95-storey building is still incomplete and will be officially opened in early 2013.

Non-equity funding for the £1.5bn project was provided by Qatar National Bank (QNB).
