Rattan tunnel offers solace at Caribbean music festival

Designed by Natalia Ortega Gámez and Jose Thén, the rattan tunnel offered shaded shelter at the Caribbean music festival Bacanalia in Santo Domingo.

The designers worked with a group of talented local artisans and used a traditional basket weaving technique plaiting the rattan over a staggered series of shaped metal frames.

The temporary tunnel took six weeks to finish and consists of two structures that stretch across the grass.

To complete the design, wooden floors were applied as well as low level lighting.
