UK-based AR Design Studio has completed the remodelling of an old horse stable into a charming three-bedroom family home.
The stable-turned-house, which was home to champion race horse ‘Lovely Cottage’ in the 1940s, sits in the small village of Headbourne Worthy, close to Winchester.
The underlying concept was to preserve as much of the original charm as possible, while any new additions would be simple and minimal to retain the spirit of The Stables.
Many of the original features were restored and repurposed, such as the stable’s partitions and the horse troughs. The latter was cleaned up and transformed into sink basins.
AR Design Studio is a young but ambitious practice, with numerous awards under its belt including the RIBA Downland prize and the Daily Telegraph’s Small House of the year Award.
