Sculpted gazelle skull adorns Dubai Creek

heritage bid, dubai creek, unesco bid

The sculpted skull of an Arabian gazelle has been put up along the Dubai Creek waterfront as part of a project entitled Make Art Possible.

It is the work of Doa Aly from Cairo and commemorates an occasion when a gazelle was spotted running down the centre of a road in Palm Jumeirah, Dubai.

The incident in May 2014 inspired Aly to look at “a sublime connection of the prehistoric with the futuristic – like a mirage eruption of nature in an urban environment” according to the statue’s plaque.
