Selva has opened a store in Tehran, in Iran in February with one scheduled to open in Doha in Lagoona Mall in October. It is also in talks to launch a showroom in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.
The interior design and hand-made furniture manufacturer is the number one brand in Russia and Philipp Selva, president, opened the first Italian furniture store in Moscow in 1989 on the main road into Red Square.
“Russia has a classic history. My father started to furnish the major hotels there over 20 years ago and people still recognise the brand and know the name to this day,” he said.
“Dubai is our business hub for the entire Middle East. We have one showroom in Sheikh Zayed Road and another in the Mall of Emirates. We expanded the one in SZR recently and it is now double in size. 70% of our furniture is Selva and 30% covers accessories, lighting, wall units, and some modern furniture by other Italian vendors. “
The company plans to increase its market share in the hospitality market and is launching a Designer Catalogue in September, which will be more technical for the design trade. It has also revamped its website home page with an iPad app for the catalogue and a pricelist available online.
“We want to increase our database because there has been some new faces coming and going within the industry. The catalogue will have a more specific product section including two Selva Timeless collections and the Philipp Selva Home line. It will have 3D renderings available to the design trade,” said Selva.
“We want to connect with interior designers who are designing palaces and we are currently working on several villas in the area,” he added.
The last hotel the company furnished was the Kempinski Hotel in MoE.
Selva added that as the EURO is dropping, it is lucky for the firm, because as exporters, it has become more competitive in the market.
“When the EURO was up, it was too expensive to compete on the larger contract wins. Our furniture is based on its quality and as such, our customer is more conservative,” he said.
