Shanghai’s ‘needle’ towers revealed by Italian architect

Designs for a 470m-high pair of tubular towers for Shanghai have be revealed by Italian firm Gianluca Milesi Architecture (GMA), reported World Architecture News.

The towers, which are coated in glass and aluminium, are scheduled for completion in 2015.

GMA told WAN: “The building structure wants to be a strong landmark in the territory, and at the same time to be a precise sign of contemporary architecture avoiding any indulgence to heaviness or vulgarity, despite the dimensions.”

It continued: “The design of the building wants to connect harmonically horizontal and vertical public and private life through a non-stop spatial and visual perception.”
