Sharjah theatre wins special LEAF award

Magma Architecture, an architecture firm based in Berlin, Germany has won a special award at the Emirates Glass LEAF awards for its Masrah Al Qasba Theatre project.

Being the first project to be completed in the UAE by Magma, it combines two 150m long and four-storey high buildings that face each other on the banks of Al Qasba Canal.

The 300-seat auditorium consisting of Arabian landscapes is designed as part of the brief which was to create a theatre that reflects the nature and history of Sharjah.

Its ceiling evokes images of sun-streaked sand dunes with lights on fold lines that accentuate the double curvature shapes, remaining invisible to the spectators.
