Solar energy project will power Hatta villas

Etihad ESCO, which is part of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), will design and install rooftop solar panels for 640 villas in the mountain town of Hatta.

The housing projects are being developed under the Hatta Comprehensive Development Plan, which was launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2018, and the panels will be connected to DEWA’s main grid.

Ali Al Jassim, CEO of Etihad ESCO, said: “It will be the largest rooftop solar project in the region.”

The plan is part of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to reach clean energy supply targets of 25% by 2030, and 75% by 2050.

The development plan is aimed at making Hatta a tourism destination. Its three key areas including the economic and service sector, tourism and sports, and culture and education.
