Designers behind Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, SOM and Danish firm Entasis have won a competition to design a tower for Gothenburg, which will be double the height of the Swedish city’s current tallest building.
Soaring upwards up to 230m, the Polestar Tower will stand 100m over Gothia New Tower, the city’s current tallest tower.
The two firms teamed up for the proposal as part of a 14 hectare masterplan for the post-industrial business district located on the north of Götaälven.
SOM design director Kent Jackson said his team plan to “deliver a great design and city district for the people of Gothenburg”.
The design itself is inspired by “ribbons blowing in the wind”.
