A proposal for a striking 400m tower in Abu Dhabi, in honour of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, was unveiled at Cityscape Abu Dhabi.
Architecture practice AllabinaLCE, a Libyan/British joint venture, launched its design for the SZ Tower and Knowledge Souk.
The design comprises a tower surrounded by a ‘Knowledge Souk’ at its base – a visitor centre to promote creativity, innovation, research and education.
The tower will accommodate conference facilities, a ‘ vertical university’, library, accommodation, themed hotel and other functions to support long- and short-term visits.
It is inspired by the form of the Arabian cloak (Bisht) and the inner garment (Thawb). An eco-skeletal wall can support photovoltaics and wind turbines and act as a shading device for the inner wall.
The base of the tower contains a series of pearl-shaped pavilions dedicated to the great thinkers of the world.
AllabinaLCE’s stand at Cityscape is displaying a scaled model, drawings and visuals of the tower.
