Star architects vie for 2050 project in LA

Grimshaw LA

Six conceptual visions of Los Angeles’ Union Station in 2050 have been drawn up by famous architecture firms including Grimshaw, Foster + Partners and Renzo Piano Building Workshop.

Designs were submitted as part of a competition and were released in a public forum at the station, which opened in 1939.

It was reported in the UK’s Building Design that Metro staff will recommend a winner to the Metro board on June 28th. Once approved, the master planning process could be completed in  24 months.

The pictured vision was created by Grimshaw with Gruen.

The five other designs were submitted by EE&K, a Perkins Eastman Company in association with UNStudio; IBI Group with Foster+Partners;  NBBJ with Ingenhoven Architects and Renzo Piano Building Workshop with Parsons Transportation Group Inc.
