Giant ice sculptures inspired by the Star Wars film series have proved a big hit at this year’s Sapporo Snow Festival, held in Japan.
Created by members of the country’s armed forces they include stormtroopers, Darth Vader, TIE fighter spacecraft and the Death Star.
The 11th Brigade of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force worked on the project as part of a training exercise and the designs won approval from Star Wars’ creators Lucasfilm.
The Star Wars tribute joins more than 200 other snow and ice sculptures on display at the design festival in Sapporo, on the northerly island of Hokkaido. It runs until Wednesday (February 11) and expects to attract more than 2 million visitors.
