The winning projects of the GE Lighting – Best in Class Student Light Design competition will be showcased at the Light Middle East exhibition.
Students from the interior design and architecture department of American University of Dubai (AUD) were invited to enter their designs in two categories – Energy Saving Lighting Products and Façade Lighting.
“GE is committed to supporting youth talent in the lighting business, and we will continue to support initiatives that encourage creativity and original thinking among the student community,” said Tamer Al Shaer, regional channel manager, GE Lighting.
“The participating students have demonstrated strong insights in promoting building aesthetics and promoting energy saving lighting – both extremely relevant to the region.
“By opting for GE products as their lighting choice, they have underlined the perfect fit of GE lighting solutions in attaining energy conservation, reducing carbon foot print and promoting sustainability,” he added.
For the Energy Saving Lighting Products category, students had to use their choice of energy saving light in an indoor environment, to show the aesthetically pleasing qualities of using such technologies to encourage its use. The winning project was evaluated on the creativity of application, color rendering, luminance, efficiency and serviceability.
In the Façade Lighting category, students had to create a new way of lighting up external windows in order to create a new façade of buildings. The winning submission was chosen for the creativity in changing the look of the building by playing with individual elements.
From the 12 concepts submitted, Dr. Linda Nubani, assistant professor at AUD and managing director of Mazarii Interiors, selected two entries based on the maturity and originality of the concept. The prize is a tour for the two winners to the Light+Building Show in Frankfurt to be held from April 15-20, 2012, sponsored by Messe Frankfurt.
The competition was organized by Messe Frankfurt, Mazarii Interiors and the American University in Dubai (AUD), and supported by the Professional Lighting Design Association (PLDA) with GE as the main sponsor.
Light Middle East 2011 will be held between September 12-14, 2011 at the Dubai International Convention Centre.
