Summertown Interiors, fit-out contractor, is on track to achieve carbon neutrality by 2020 thanks to its Eco-Leaders Green Committee.
In the 12 months since it formed the internal task group, the company has achieved 26% of the deliverables outlined in its nine-year plan.
As a member of the Dubai Chamber Sustainability Network, Summertown’s ‘Green Plan’ will be one of the case studies used by Dubai Chamber’s Centre for Responsible Business to educate other UAE businesses on ‘Integrating CSR into Business Strategy’.
“As a green fit-out partner, the Eco-Leaders Green committee forms an integral part of our CSR strategy,” said Marcos Bish, MD, Summertown Interiors.
“The UAE’s Vision 2021 aims to further the position of the country as a sustainable nation and our goal to become carbon-neutral is in accordance with this.
“It is just as important for companies in the private sector to integrate sustainability into their business strategies as it is for government entities. However, a company cannot fully achieve its sustainable goals if they do not secure their employees’ commitment to these and develop an environmentally-conscious culture both within and outside of the workplace.”
According to a 2012 CSR survey by the Dubai Chamber, only 28% of Dubai companies have a corporate environmental policy, and only 15.2% of companies implement an environmental management system.
Externally, the company is committed to undertaking green projects and improving waste management practices across all sites. In addition to its LEED Gold-certified showroom, it has completed three other green projects this year.
