Summertown Interiors launches healthcare division in the UAE

UAE-based fit-out company has launched a dedicated healthcare division to its portfolio, with the aim of servicing the growing need for specialist fit-out contractors to support the country’s growing healthcare sector.

The division is led by Summertown Interiors’ business development manager, Sarah Flowerday.

According to a report by Alpen Capital, the healthcare market in the UAE is projected to grow 12.7% CAGR to reach $19.5 billion in 2020. New segments including day-care surgery, cosmetic surgeries and diagnostic imaging are some of the contributing growth factors.

“While there is a demand for both new build projects as well as upgrades to existing healthcare facilities, the industry is also facing unsustainable challenges. Supply chain issues, increasing healthcare insurance costs and the looming introduction of value-added tax are impacting the viability of existing healthcare operations. This has prompted several healthcare providers to consolidate their brands and focus on ways to create efficiencies across their facilities,” a release by Summertown Interiors explained.

“The healthcare industry is one of the UAE’s promising growth sectors and provides vast opportunities for the fit-out industry where there is currently a lack of specialists. At Summertown, we understand that healthcare projects are complex and highly regulated, so we are working hard with key decision makers to truly understand the industry’s demands to enable us to deliver the best interior solutions,” Flowerday said.

“Our 20-year journey as one of the region’s leading and most sustainable contractors specialising in LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) has naturally led us to migrate to healthcare. We believe our core values and practices of sustainability, quality and functionality are clearly aligned to those of the healthcare sector.

“The challenges the industry is currently facing are very similar to those we experienced in 2009 when the lack of knowledge, expertise, standards and good products held back the growth of the ‘green’ movement in the UAE. Today, our sustainability credentials give us an edge over other contractors in the market as we continue to leverage our existing strategic partnerships and implement our core values,” said Flowerday.

Last month, Summertown Interiors completed the fit-out work for Smart Dubai Office  which is expected to reach LEED Gold level. The project has also been shortlisted for the Fit Out Project of the Year category for the 2017 Commercial Interior Design Awards.
