Pearl Dive, a work by Swiss architect Lukas Lenherr, was the winning entry in a competition to revamp historic landmark, Bal Al Bahrain.
The winner was announced at a ceremony in Bab Al Bahrain Square pavilion in Manama, and was attended by top Bahraini officials.
The judging panel contained Ahmed Al Ali, chairman of UAE firm X-Architects.
Ali was joined by Domus editor-in-chief Joseph Grima, Lebanese architect Bernard Khoury, Dutch architect Bjarne Mastenbroek, Bahraini urban planner Ma’moun Almoayed and the Bahraini Culture Minister.
Lenherr’s design was adjudged the best out of 85 entries, and won $15,000.
Completed in 1945, Bal Al Bahrain currently houses a tourist information office and handicrafts shop.
