UAE volunteers design African orphanage

A group of more than 50 UAE-based architects, engineers, professors and students have come together to plan a new orphanage in Tanzania.

The volunteers have been meeting for a series of workshops in Dubai to bring complete the designs for buildings that will be home to around 300 African children without family support.

“A charitable organisation in Tanzania bought this land and approached us to do a drawing,” said George Katodrytis, a professor of architecture at the American University of Sharjah and one of the volunteers.

“We have invited young students, architects and professors to create a design team.”
