UAE’s telecommunications company Du to implement smart building systems in Ajman

A contract has been signed to install smart systems in select buildings across Ajman‘s Rumaila District, reported Construction Week.

Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (Du) signed a deal with Ajman’s Municipality and Planning Department (MPD) to transform Rumaila into a smart and sustainable residential district.

Under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by Du and the MPD, the Smart Rumaila District Project will be jointly developed by both companies, in line with a comprehensive masterplan, as well as the urban planning policies, adopted by Ajman’s government.

Du will design, build, and operate smart systems within some of Omar bin Al Khattab Road’s buildings as part of the MoU.

The systems will feature advanced building management, renewable energy, energy-saving, and safety features.

Smart systems for telecommunications, street lighting, waste management, and car parking areas will also be covered under the MoU.

Rumaila is located within the old Ajman City, and overlooks the Ajman Corniche.

Abdulrahman Mohamed Al Nuaimi, MPD’s director general, and Jihad Tayara, Du’s vice president of business development and partnerships for new business and innovation, signed the agreement, the UAE’s state news agency, WAM, reported.

Smart technologies are a key focus area for the UAE, where numerous public- and private-sector initiatives are frequently unveiled with a view to the future.

For instance, the world’s first smart police services centre opened in Dubai last September.

HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, inaugurated the facility.

The centre will operate round the clock to provide 27 services to the public.

These will cover traffic, criminal, and community services, as well as 33 full automated sub-services, UAE state news agency, WAM, reported.

According to the news agency, Sheikh Mohammed instructed Dubai Police to open more centres in residential and commercial districts in Dubai to provide smart services.
