Unlocking the future of door technology

Integrated technology is the future when it comes to locks for doors according to Italian company ISEO.

The Internet of Things, which allows smart devices to talk to each other and be operated from a mobile phone, is another factor which will be increasingly important according to experts from the firm which is expanding operations across the Middle East from its office in Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Dubai.

Marco Gattone, general manager, said: “My mother opens her door by using a key – but my daughter does the same by thing using her phone. That shows how systems are evolving and it is something we, as a company, have fully taken on board.”

The company was founded more than 40 years ago and at first specialised in purely mechanical locks. It now has three factories in Italy and one each in France and Germany.

But in Dubai it has its ISEO Projects and Access Control division which is looking to the future of building entry and egress.

Gattone said: “Locks are still the core of our firm and we carry the roots of our business along with us, but here we are looking to the future and Dubai, with its forward-thinking, is exactly the right place to do this.

“The world is going towards much more integrated technological systems and we are going along with that viewpoint. There is a need for greater comfort and security among people so access technology is now about far more than just opening and closing doors.

“Systems can record how many people have entered a building, for instance. This sort of information is important to people. Cost is still a factor in the marketplace and competition to businesses such as ours, mainly from outside Europe, is obviously a factor. But quality products ensure peace of mind for homeowners and those in business.”
