Video: Inside the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi with Frank Gehry

The architect Frank Gehry talks about his asymmetrical design for the planned 450,000-square-foot Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and his inspiration for the museum’s huge, cooling cones.

During a panel discussion in Abu Dhabi, Gehry said he was initially wary to work on the project.

“I was hesitant because it was formidable to come over here. Once I came I fell in love with the region. It’s my only project in the region so I became very personally involved,” he said.

“I think this collaboration with the Emiratis has been very meaningful and I hope it results in a legacy.”

Currently, part of the permanent collection for the museum is on show as part of a exhibit entitled “Seeing Through the Light” in Abu Dhabi.
