eVolo Magazine unveiled the winners of the 2012 Skyscraper Competition, an annual prize which recognises “outstanding ideas that redefine skyscraper design”.
The jury selected three winners and 22 honorable mentions from the 714 projects that were entered.
First place was awarded to Himalaya Water Tower, a water-conserving mountain skyscraper which collects water in the rainy season, freezes it into ice and stores it for future use.
The runner up was the design for Mountain Band-Aid which returns the displaced Hmong mountain people in China to their homes while restoring the ecology of the Yunnan mountain range.
Third place went to a design called Vertical Landfill which acts a power plant that harvests energy from waste decomposition.
