Wonky library inspired by ying and yang sign

The design of a public library by Evgeny Markachev and Julia Kozlova is derived from the philosophical ‘yin and yang’ sign.

The sign provided inspiration for the swooping structure, as well as its separation into two functional section (education and communication).

Roofs of both section are covered with planted terraces that can be enjoyed by the public.

It won first place in the Sustainable Design Category of the Autodesk Special Prize at the Archi-World Academy Awards for 2011-2013.
