A groundbreaking ceremony has taken place to mark the start of construction on the Marsa Village Retail Centre at The Wave – a mixed-use development in Muscat with an estimated construction cost of $4bn.
The management team behind the project, which is being developed on 2.2m m2 of land in Muscat, including 600,000m2 of of reclaimed land and a natural beach, said that the 10,850m2 retail centre would provide a convenient facility for residents who purchase property at the development.
The Wave Muscat is the first major development in the country to offer freehold properties to non-Omanis, and the retail centre will be anchored by the country’s first Waitrose store. Other facilities on site include three luxury hotels, an 18-hole golf course, a 300-berth arena and around 4,000 residential units.
The project’s CEO, Michael Lenarduzzi, said: “The Marsa Village Retail Centre will be the main retail and commercial focal point within the development, creating an opportunity for job creation at the heart of the development, giving back to the wider community in Muscat and Oman.
“The Wave, Muscat’s assets span diverse sectors and create a variety of opportunities: from the golf and marina operations to the hotel and hospitality industry, The Wave, Muscat is fast becoming the catalyst for long term growth and employment in Muscat.”
The centre will also contain a number of food and drink units, speciality retail stores, a fitness centre and 2,000m2 of offices on the top floor.
