Workspace celebrates its 15th year at INDEX

Workspace at INDEX, the region’s exhibition dedicated to commercial interior design, is taking place alongside INDEX, during the same period at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Celebrating its 15th year, the show will feature the latest international brands.

Retailspace is the latest expansion to workspace at INDEX and offers designers access to leading retail products. Commercial Interior Design talks to Rebecca Lockwood, event director, about the novelties of the 2016 edition of workspace at INDEX.

“There’s so much packed into the halls at workspace at INDEX that I’m really looking forward to seeing it come to life at this year’s show,” says Lockwood. “One exciting introduction is our new vertical – Retailspace. Incorporating products and services from new exhibitors, Retailspace is definitely worth a trip for our retail buyers.

“We also have more than 50 new exhibitors, four days of free to attend Design Talks this year brought to you by sponsor OFIS, our Trend Hub (located in Hall 1) which has been curated by our partners Scarlet Opus, our new Retail Buyers club programme and much much more…”

Commenting on how office design has changed over the years, Lockwood says that while the private office and partitions system setups still have prevalence, collaborative and socialising environments are being seen more in new projects. The GCC region has typically had a more traditional view of the workspace, but she notices a shift of office designs to openness.

Lockwood adds: “The way in which we work has changed dramatically over recent years, we all have a mobile device and the line between home and work is blurred, making the static office set up increasingly redundant.

“The GCC is also unique in the challenges that it faces due to environmental impact, all of which neesd to be factored into office design. Trying to keep a workforce happy and comfortable when it’s nudging fifty degrees outside is not an easy task – I’m sure most have experienced the annual air conditioning fights in the typical workspace in summer months. Cleverly thought-out spaces are imperative.”

Not to miss

In addition to more than 150 exhibitors from 20 countries, workspace at INDEX has a raft of exciting new features, including the Visual Merchandising course hosted by Scarlet Opus.

“I’d also recommend swinging by our Design Talks seminar room this year, sponsored by OFIS, and catch one of our free to attend sessions,” says Lockwood. “Steelcase will be sharing its findings on its report ‘Engagement in the Global Workplace’ on Monday 23rd May at 12:10 straight after OFIS’s opening session which will be a must attend.”
