American architects win Melbourne university project

Boston-based NADAAA has won the design competition to complete the new building for the faculty of architecture, building and planning for the University of Melbourne in Australia.

The project consists of a six-level living structure that is both a pedagogical tool and an example of sustainable design, heeding to the demands of an academic environment.

The faceted interior skin includes a soaring atrium as well as a wooden coffered studio hall designed to optimise informal classroom space. This will also naturally ventilate the area and assist the entrance of passive daylight.
