Developers Cayan Investment and Development announced yesterday that its award-winning Dh1 billion residential tower project in Dubai Marina will have its name changed from Infinity Tower to Cayan Tower.
“I like to describe it as my baby,” said president and chairman of the board of Cayan Group, Ahmed Al Hatti.
The announcement came just before the tower was inaugurated in a ceremony complete with fireworks and acrobatic performances.
He said the decision to rename was a strategic one, since there was an Infinity Tower in both Brisbane and Manama and he did not want to draw a level comparison.
“There’s more than one Infinity Tower in the world, and we believe there’s no tower in the world like ours,” he said. “This will be the only Cayan tower. We wanted it to be connected to us.”
The construction of Cayan Tower began in early 2006 and took seven years to complete due to several unforeseen circumstances such as the collapse of a nearby wall and subsequent flooding of the construction site during the initial stages.
The tower was designed by Skidmore Owings and Merrill, the architects behind Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the Trump Tower in Chicago and Jin Mao in Shanghai.
