Farewell letter from the editor: CID is more than the sum of its parts

It is with some sadness that I write these lines as it is the last CID editor’s letter that I shall pen. As many of you know, I am leaving for a fresh challenge after a thoroughly enjoyable period editing Commercial Interior Design magazine.

Over my two and a half years at the helm, I’ve produced 30 issues, and it was a real thrill to support and write about such a thriving and creative industry and witness the growth of the region as it becomes a global hub for design.

I’ve witnessed such strides as the opening and growth of Dubai Design District, now home to so many companies at the forefront of design innovation. My team and I were able to support the initial stages of Dubai Design Week, Amman Design Week, Beirut Design Fair and Saudi Design Week, which are all now becoming important events in the regional design calendar.

Along with my colleagues, I was privileged to be among the first to step inside the spectacular Dubai Opera House and the Louvre Abu Dhabi. But with the same passion we’ve covered the openings of numerous commercial offices, restaurants, hotels and schools across the region, each using design to enhance people’s experience and their surroundings.

I always regarded Commercial Interior Design magazine to be an open platform for designers and a forum for debate within the industry. And I can truly say, I have never been disappointed with the standard and quality of responses to the issues raised in the magazine.

All of these experiences combined with the fascinating insights from your businesses have made for a wonderful 30 months.

On leaving, I know that CID will always be a success as it is so much more than just the editorial team. These pages truly reflect the contribution made by talented industry professionals.

Once again thank you to all of our readers and clients for making my term as editor such a great and memorable experience.
