As I write this I’m still getting over the standard of entries in this year’s Middle East Architect Awards. I know it’s an easy thing to say but the standard of entries – in the vast majority – has been truly outstanding.
It is also extremely gratifying to see so many new names and faces taking part in the competition as well as the fact that areas across the region – not just the UAE – have such a high level of participation.
But what is possibly most pleasing about the whole competition this year is the huge number of entries from people in the Young Architect of the Year category. This was – apart from the residential nominations – the most competitive and also saw the largest number of entries.
Of course I can’t say who has won – even if I wanted to. The judges haven’t met yet, in any case.
But it’s safe to say they will have an extremely hard task right across the board – but especially when it comes to identifying the emerging talent within the profession.
It was obvious, even on first viewing that design across the region is in safe hands for the foreseeable future.
So, this is the issue which will be on the tables at the awards and although I’ll do so in person on the night I just want to thank everyone who entered and good luck to them all. Have a great evening to all who attend.
